Difficulty In Quitting Antidepressants Is Seen In Most Of Its Users

Zoloft SSRI Antidepressants

The long journey in treating depression proves to a difficult task. It may take its toll on men and women suffering these low moods, apart from their loved ones. Every now and then there are treatment-resistant depressions that surface. For this reason most psychiatrists tell their patients to strictly adhere to their medication regimen. The side effects of the drugs make it hard for patients to follow their medication plan. Research have found promising results when both diabetes and depression are treated at the same time.

Psychiatrists tell their patients not to lose hope because even the most severe type of depression is curable. Any type of person may be affected by depression. Still, there are person who are found to have higher risk in developing it. There are now a variety of antidepressants offered in the market and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) have been newly developed. They are believed to be better than the earlier formulations because they have lesser side effects. Before the news about the severe withdrawal symptoms, birth defects and suicide risks in using SSRIs, they were thought to be a marvel.

People were not daunted by the news about the withdrawal symptoms of antidepressants. The mental and physical well-being of a person changes when a drug that their body has been taking was abruptly stopped, however the symptoms usually varies. Some are perhaps identical to the side effects they have experienced. Many people who withdrew from Zoloft claimed that they regretted using it for the reason that they had a hard time going off it. A person who stops his medication hastily, more often than not, experiences withdrawal symptoms. The severity of the symptoms is affected by the length of time the medication has been taken.

Zoloft has a half-life of 24 hours. So, when a person misses a dose, he or she may experience withdrawal side effects. Discomfort arising from mental and physical changes following withdrawal may last for two weeks or may extend up to a month. While they were trying to quit, Zoloft users have experienced increased anxiety. At times aggression is seen in people who are withdrawing. Some users who were quitting also reported that they were hallucinating. A process of lowering down the dosage would be the best option for the patients trying to quit, doctors say. In some rare cases, people who have tapered their dose still underwent withdrawal. Pfizer received a Zoloft lawsuit from some of the former users.
